Heritage Auctions said the lock of Lennon's shaggy bob was acquired from a German hairdresser who trimmed the musician's hair in Hamburg before he began filming How I Won The War in September 1966. The dark comedy, released the following year, depicted the Second World War misadventures of British troops led by an inept commander. The Beatles legend portrayed Private Gripweed in the Richard Lester film. Heritage Auctions said the lock of hair had been in the hairdresser's possession for nearly 50 years. The winning bidder will also receive a signed call sheet from the film and "two vintage period newspaper articles regarding this landmark haircut", the auctioneer said. The auction is scheduled for 20 February.
